Fashion recruiter David Solomon has joined apparel, textile and homeware recruitment consultancy Permanser to assist with enquiries on overseas sourcing and manufacturing.

Solomon, who has previously worked as a buyer with department store Myer, followed by senior positions at Adidas, Country Road and Jeans West, brings 30 years of local and overseas experience in apparel design, development and sourcing to Permanser, and will enable the company to boost its service levels further.

According to a statement released by Permanser, Solomon is “superbly positioned to offer a unique perspective of the benefits and drawbacks of overseas manufacturing to Permanser clients”. The company also said Solomon's role will see him visiting interested businesses to assess or audit their China sourcing and product requirements on a no-charge basis, with any subsequent ongoing consultancy invoiced on an hourly charge-out basis through Permanser.

As former owner of TMI Australasia, privately-owned distributor and supplier of licensed underwear and sleepwear, Solomon has also spent a significant amount of time in Asia, and is familiar with the processes of product development, sourcing and supply chain management in the industry.

Solomon established TMI as a joint venture in Hong Kong, sourcing product in China and selling to major retailers in Australia, but sold TMI to Pacific Brands in 2005, although he continued to run the company for a time, supplying underwear to the Australian DDS market.

More recently, David has been consulting to a number of large Australian apparel companies with an emphasis on finding Chinese suppliers offering a high level of quality and service delivery. Permanser said his expertise lies in sourcing offshore suppliers for local Australian companies in order to maximise quality and profitability is legendary.

Founded in 1981, Permanser now provides recruitment services to the Fashion, Textile, Clothing, Footwear and related industries both in Australia and internationally. Service spans across a range of sectors from sourcing raw materials to sale of finished products, including various skills and occupations in design, manufacturing, import, wholesale and retail.
